Sterilization and sanitization of a room kill the microorganisms before they can harm you

Sterilization refers to any process that eliminates, removes, kills, or deactivates all forms of life particularly microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, and spores; unicellular organisms ( such as Plasmodium ) and other biological agents like Prions present in a specific surface, object or fluid. Sanitization, on the other hand, is the process by which the number of pathogenic microorganisms is substantially reduced, usually by 99.99%, so that they are no longer harmful. Sterilization and sanitization are both very important as they help to keep people from becoming sick. Both sanitization and sterilization attack various components of the microbial cell itself, to either stop the microbes from reproducing or to kill and inactivate them directly. Thus in the context of cleaning the room of a person who is ill with some infectious disease or to prevent illness by making an area germ-free, the processes of sterilization and sanitization are indispensable.

THE METHODS OF STERILIZATION AND SANITIZATION

Sterilization of a room becomes essential when someone living in it has some contagious illness. Sterilization can be achieved by a combination of heat, chemicals,  irradiation, high pressure and filtration like steam under pressure, dry heat, ultraviolet radiation, gas vapour sterilants, Chlorine dioxide gas, etc. Classical sterilization techniques using saturated steam under pressure or hot air are the most reliable method and should be used, whenever possible. Recent studies suggest that environmental contamination is a likely source of infection transmission. The indoor air of a room, when inhabited by a person with contagious disease, contains a veritable invisible cloud of particulate matter, microorganisms ( including spores, viruses and bacteria) and volatile organic compounds. The best way of battling these contaminants is air and room sterilization.
As far sanitization is concerned, there are three methods of using heat to sanitize surfaces – steam, hot water and hot air. Using hot water is one of the most common methods. Sanitising touchable surfaces is important because it kills the germs and microorganisms that soap and water cannot.
For sanitization and sterilization of your home or office, you can always take professional help or can do it yourself, too. Apart from the good disinfectants available in the market, you can use any bleaching agent and use it after diluting with water.
